Biography
Matt Torres
b. 1997, Colombia
Matt Torres is a Colombian visual artist based in the United States. His beginnings in art took place at EDA, the District School of Arts in Barranquilla, the city where he began to develop his sensitivity toward image, drawing, and painting. He later graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Universidad del Atlántico in Colombia.
His practice emerges from sensitivity and creativity as ways of exploring experience between environment, memory, love, and the non-place. Working primarily through painting, drawing, and image-based processes, Torres develops a visual language that moves between photorealism, poetic construction, and introspection.
He has received two honorable mentions in painting, one of them in a salon held in collaboration with Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla, as well as several local recognitions and a first-place award in Tennessee in collaboration with District Gallery. He has held one solo exhibition and has participated in more than fifteen group exhibitions at national and international levels, including auctions and art fairs such as Artexpo New York 2026. His work is part of private collections in Latin America and North America.
Through his work, the personal becomes a shared experience, addressing themes such as absence, memory, vulnerability, belonging, and the emotional condition of inhabiting uncertain places.
